Music Medals
Music Medals are fun, rewarding and accredited assessments supported by award-winning repertoire that focus on the flexible needs of instrumental teachers and their pupils. Music Medals introduce essential musical skills and inspire younger learners to play and enjoy music together.
Copper and Bronze Medals provide a tangible challenge and goal to beginners. Silver, Gold and Platinum Medals encourage and reward ongoing musical development.

Music Medals recognise the importance of the teacher in both the learning and the assessment processes. There are no external examiners involved and the initial assessment is made by the teacher in their role as Teacher-Assessor.
The Exam
The Music Medals assessment incorporates the following three components:
Ensemble

The candidate plays an individual line in an ensemble piece for two, three or four players. Ensemble playing provides invaluable experience of the skills of leading, counting-in, interaction, balancing, listening, and blending with others.
Solo

The candidate plays one piece from the solo repertoire list for his or her instrument and Medal. This part of the assessment underlines the importance of developing musical independence and individuality.
Option

The candidate selects one Option test from a choice of four. Each test helps to build sound musicianship skills and candidates can play to their own individual strengths.
How are Music Medals assessed?
Whilst Music Medals assessments take place in groups - of equal or mixed ability - only one member of the group is assessed per Medal. This ensures that full attention is given to their contribution and that individual attainment is recognised.
