Understanding and Teaching Jazz

This course is specifically designed for classically-trained instrumental teachers who would like to feel more comfortable with jazz, and are interested in introducing it into their teaching. This is run as a two-weekend residential course.

The focus of the first weekend is on enhancing your understanding, knowledge and skills. In the second weekend, you will address how to introduce these elements of jazz and improvisation into your lessons. The course is intended for teachers with little or no experience of jazz in their work, and will use simple vocal and percussion exercises, as well as keyboards and teachers’ own instruments.

Dates, venues and booking information will be made available soon.

Aural skills

A one-day workshop in which you will learn techniques for developing aural skills with your students, and methods for incorporating these into your lessons.

Play By Ear

A one-day workshop which aims to give you the confidence to start playing without music, and to pass these skills on to your pupils. It is suitable for teachers of any musical instrument, including voice, and by the end of the day you will feel more comfortable playing from lead sheets, be able to work out harmonic accompaniments to melodies and transpose a tune.

Dates, venues and booking information will be made available soon.
