In November, we delivered a large-scale, hybrid workshop for students, teachers and parents at City Montessori School in Lucknow, India.

City Montessori School in Lucknow has more than 60,000 students and 4,500 teachers based across multiple sites in the city. It is a school with music at its heart, with more than 50 music teachers working across its campuses.

The workshop, exploring the role that music plays in our lives, was led jointly by James Welburn, our Partnerships Manager, Zoё Booth, from our Chief Examiner Group, and examiner Michael Walsh. Technology allowed all three to present, with James and Zoё on screen, and Michael live on the CMS stage.

As well as gaining an insight into the value of music and the opportunities that musical learning and engagement can provide, the audience enjoyed taking part in a series of musical games, involving call-and-response clapping and singing, and interaction with live piano playing. The event finished with a question and answer session covering a range of topics, from performance tips and techniques to opportunities for musical careers and further study.

For James it was “amazing to experience so many people engaging with music in this way!” The workshop was also great success with students, such as Verda, who said it “illuminated not only the intrinsic joy of learning music but also shed light on the career prospects”, and Advitiya, who described it as “an enriching event that has left a lasting impression on me.”

Thank you to our representative, Mrs Sonia Khan, and the Senior Principal at CMS, Rajajipuram, Mrs Nisha Pandey, for their support and energy in organising this fantastic event. Reflecting on the workshop, Mrs Khan praised the “pioneering vision of CMS management” in supporting musical literacy and investing in their music provision, while Mrs Pandey was “absolutely thrilled to have the honour of hosting an immersive music workshop that brought immense value to our entire school community.”

We are very much looking forward to continuing our journey with CMS and wish students and teachers the very best for their own musical journeys.
