Bowed Strings syllabus bookletOur new Bowed Strings syllabus is now available. As well as new set pieces for Violin candidates, our new syllabus also outlines our revised scales and sight-reading requirements for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.

New publications

Violin Exam Pieces

Violin Exam Pieces 2012&nash2015, Grade 1A selection of nine pieces from ABRSM's Violin syllabus for 2012–2015 is included in each volume of Violin Exam Pieces (Grades 1–7).

Each album features three pieces from each of Lists A, B and C providing appealing and varied repertoire from which to create a balanced programme for the exam or a concert. They also contain helpful information about the pieces and the exam.

Violin Exam Pieces are also available as separate violin parts (Grades 1–5) and with CD recordings (Grades 1–7). A separate recording of the entire Grade 8 syllabus is available.

Violin Star

Violin Star, student's book 1Violin Star is a new series of easy repertoire pieces for beginners through to ABRSM Grade 2 violinists. The series comprises three levels, with a student's book and accompaniment book available for each.

Books 2 and 3 include pieces from ABRSM’s new 2012–2015 Violin syllabus.

Scales & arpeggios and specimen sight-reading tests 

Cello Scales & ArpeggiosSupport materials outlining the changes that we’ve made to our scales and sight-reading requirements for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass are now available.

These improvements form part of a wider review that we are conducting across all instruments.

ABRSM podcastsIn this edition our regular presenter, BBC Radio Three’s Sarah Walker, introduces musical extracts from the new Violin syllabus.

Sarah also delves into the new Bowed Strings scales and sight-reading requirements with ABRSM Syllabus Director Nigel Scaife and Jessica O’Leary, violinist, examiner and ABRSM conference presenter.

Audio downloads

Audio downloadsRecordings of all the pieces from our new 2012–2015 Violin syllabus are now available to download from www.abrsm.org/audioshop.

A single download will provide you (where applicable) with the full track recording, with piano accompaniment, and a separate recording of the accompaniment only.

You can either download all the recordings for a particular grade or purchase tracks individually.

ABRSM PureSolo

ABRSM PureSoloABRSM and PureSolo's unique recording tool at www.abrsm.org/puresolo provides musicians of all levels the opportunity to create their own recorded audio and video tracks at home using music from ABRSM syllabuses and then publish and share their performances online.
