The CT ABRSM Plus course combines two highly respected letter-bearing qualifications: the Certificate of Teaching (CT ABRSM) and the Principles of Teaching diploma (DipABRSM).

Who is the Certificate of Teaching (CT ABRSM) course for?

This course is designed for instrumental and vocal teachers who are interested in expanding their knowledge and understanding of teaching and music education.

The course is open to instrumental and vocal teachers who are teaching at least 5 pupils on a regular basis. In order to benefit from this course you should also have a minimum of one year’s teaching experience to draw on.

The course includes the option to take the DipABRSM exam. If you wish to do so, you must have passed an ABRSM Grade 8 Practical, or a permitted substitution, and ABRSM Grade 6 Theory (1992 syllabus).

What does the course involve and what will I learn?

Each course consists of study days and distance/online work and support. Study days are split into whole-group and instrument-specific mentor group sessions. Whole-group sessions examine broad teaching issues such as learning styles, lesson planning, music technology and preparation for performance. Mentor groups explore issues related to instrument specialisms, such as developing techniques, tone production, and repertoire.

Upon completion of the course you’ll be able to review your own teaching, make judgements about how effective it is and introduce new teaching techniques to your music lessons.

Where can I study the CT ABRSM Plus course?
