Theory Matters
A one-day workshop for all instrumental and vocal teachers, presented by Paul Harris.
Who is it for?
This course is suitable for teachers of any instrument and may be of particular interest to those who intend to prepare their pupils to sit their Grade 5 Theory exam.
In order to get the most out of the day, it is recommended that participants have a good working knowledge of music theory up to at least Grade 5 standard.
What will I learn?
This course will outline why a sound knowledge of music theory is important and how it can not only provide a deeper understanding of the music on the page, but also enhance musicianship and performance skills in your pupils.
Participants will explore the concept of Simultaneous Learning and how this can be used to incorporate music theory into your pupils' practical lessons from day one. You’ll discuss key elements of the ABRSM Theory syllabus, such as rhythm & tempo, pitch, timbre, key, composition, chords and harmony.
Throughout the course you’ll refer to examples from ABRSM past theory papers, breaking them down to identify what skills and knowledge each question tests. Your presenter will also share useful tips and advice on teaching strategies and further resources that you can use in your lessons.
