Who is the course for?
Developing Jazz Techniques is aimed at teachers with some experience of jazz who would like to develop their playing and understanding further. The course is open to teachers of all instruments who are using jazz in their lessons, enter students for ABRSM jazz exams or who have previously attended an ABRSM Let’s Teach Jazz course.
Course details
This is an opportunity to work on your playing skills and strengthen your understanding of the background, theory and principles of jazz, giving you more confidence when using this idiom with your students.
The course will cover all aspects of jazz playing and teaching, with a particular focus on:
- Rhythmic styles: swing, rock and Latin
- Modes and scales and their use when improvising
- Chords and symbols and how to interpret them
- Improvisation
- Playing by ear and from notation

How much does it cost?
This is a residential course, and the full fee includes all meals, refreshments and accommodation.
If you choose to attend on a non-residential basis, then the fee includes lunch, dinner and refreshments over the duration of the course. CT ABRSM Alumni Association members receive a 10% discount.
