Hello all you keen forum cellists (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I am thinking of organising a forum cello day or weekend as there seem to be quite a few of us who would enjoy such an event.

I would suggest that we all bring a piece or two to perform during the morning and then have a cello ensemble session in the afternoon. I think to get the most out of it we would benefit from having a teacher there to guide us. I quite like the idea of a mini masterclass for everyone as I think we could learn a lot from watching each other play and hearing the feedback.

In terms of a location/venue, I live just off the A3 about 30 mins south of the M25. There is a church very near me that we could use which has a decent piano and good acoustics. There is a train station 5 minutes walk away on the main Waterloo to Portsmouth line. However if anyone has a better suggestion in terms of venue please say so!

Barry-clari has kindly volunteered his teacher's services (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'm sure my teacher would also be keen to come and contribute and again, I'm open to other suggestions.

I am happy to organise once I know what people would like and that enough people are keen to come.

Obviously it would be open to all levels (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Looking forward to meeting you all soon hopefully (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Barry-clari is going to ask iona to see whether she wants to come or not : I love the enthusiasm, but I don't know what the answer is yet!

My suspicion is closer to London (certainly within the Oyster area) would be better - but we'll see. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ooh super - exciting! I'm in West Kent and happy to travel, either into London (if easy to get to on public transport) or pretty much anywhere else that's accessible from the M25 and less than 2 hours drive away.

I could mention it to my teacher too in case she's interested.

One advantage to using the church here is that it would be free or v cheap. I've helped them out a number of times recently by playing piano/organ for them so have brownie points in the bank!!

But happy to go with majority if closer to London is better (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Sounds good to me! I'd probably have to book a Travel Lodge of something for an overnighter as a round trip to the south east in one day is a bit much (although I did do a weekend in India for the office a few years ago...). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I think my new teacher said she's got some 'cello orchestra' music.

EDIT: fix typo
EDIT the EDIT for the typo I missed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

For those who are interested, I wonder if we ought to try to think about a date? I was thinking maybe May or June? What do you think?

Barry, have you managed to speak to your teacher yet? I can ask mine tomorrow when I have my lesson if necessary.

For those who have a long way to come, would you rather it was in London or would you be happy to venture south of the M25? There is a Travel Lodge 10 minutes drive from the church I was thinking of using.

Suepea, I think you said on a previous thread that you had a venue near you. Is that closer to London and therefore generally better?

A couple of the members of my quartet would be keen to come too, both are like minded adult learners (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Let me know your thoughts, thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

May would be better for me as I'm away on EPTA course for two weekends in June and I fear my children may forget what I look like (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) .

South of M25 is fine for me, as is closer to London but preferably with easy road access as I would prefer to drive with a cello in tow (unless it's central London). But I'm happy to go with the flow really. Thanks for trying to organise something Lubylu!

I'm relatively flexible. At present the only definite no-no is Jun29 as it's summer concert (Puccini Messe di Gloria and operatic stuff).

Just bear in mind I'm best part of 200 miles north of London! By way of example, I was in Romsey a couple of weeks ago - that's about a 4 hour drive.

Several weekend dates gone in May/June for me already, so will keep fingers crossed.

Not in May/June, and not in Hampshire : though there's a possibility that she and I will look into doing something in Clari-Land after the summer holidays if people are up for it.

If it's where I think it is, it's not an easy journey from me to you, lubylu, with a cello in tow. But will go with a majority view (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
