Firstly apologies, as I may have asked this before but not sure where and I can't locate the thread....

After enjoying today's playday in York I've been thinking and I think I'd like to attend a similar style event aimed at more advanced players over the next 12 months or so. It'd be good to push myself a bit and I also enjoy a serious sight reading workout ....

What would you recommend?.....

It would have to be a one off event ..... not clash with any of my band commitments (usually Sundays in the Summer months) .... be "up North" - i.e. within an easy day trip distance from the East Yorks area.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Are you after things that are for clarinets only, Dawn? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Louise is right : it's for all woodwinds, and should all being well be happening again at the end of January/beginning of February (depending on when Shea can get the RNCM). Well, well worth a visit : I'll be there again in 2012.

The CASS playday this year is on 27th November in Liverpool, but that seems quite an epic journey, the only other things I can immediately think of are Darlington Clarinets, which have a playday each May (this year's was yesterday), and events that the Yorkshire based Chinook Clarinet Quartet put on (but their website was last updated in July 2010...).

No - just anything that can include clarinets. Sorry I wasn't being very clear (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

Orchestral, wind band, clarinet choir, single reed event etc etc .... would all be ok.

Have a look at the Cobwebs stuff. The one-off things they do looking at particular symphonies etc might suit you and you don't need to be a member of one of the rehersal groups to go to these. They use the proper music, rather than simplified versions. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Obviously the beginners events wouldn't suit you, but you should be able to tell which is which.

Thanks for the recommendations ....

If anyone spots something suitable please post here to give me a bit of a push ... All too easy to get swallowed up in the world of kids commitments but I am entitled to a day or so to do something for me. Thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
