debussy's 'syrinx' is gorgeous, 'jade' from 76 graded studies book 2 is nice, as is no. 75 but i can't do any of the leaping around! erm 'music for solo flute' by trevor wye is a good book in my opinion - it has quite a few of the telemann fantasies, some bach and syrinx in it - it's about £9 i think and in my opinion it's one of the best flute books i've bought - i love the pieces so much, it was worth every penny!
try the syllabus for some more ideas - there was a good write up in the 'new for flute' article ages ago for kent kennan's 'night soliloquy', sadly i haven't managed to get a copy yet though so i can't recommend it! hoxie x |

I don't like Poulenc but maybe he's a bit too familiar. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) The Rutter looks good, heard it at an honours recital one year, she did the Taktakishvili and Widor as well. Hummel and Mozart sound good as well.

The Flautist's Collection... I forget the book number! It has been talked about before, might be worth doing a search. Edited by Paul Edmund Davies. Think it's book 3... I would do a forum search myself but have to dash. So much fantastic music at this level (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

The Gaubert Madrigal is Grade 6.
I'll trot out my usual favourites at this level: Grade 7 standard (not all on current AB syllabus): Bozza Aria, Hummel D major sonata last movement, Faure Morceau de concours, Poulenc Cantilena, Telemann G major, Telemann Fantasias 1 & 8, JS Bach G minor sonata first movement. Grade 8 standard: Mouquet La Flute de Pan i and ii, Bach E major and E minor sonatas, Schubert Arpeggione, Mozart D major concerto i, Danzi D minor concerto iii, Quantz G major concerto iii, York Bowen Sonata ii, Syrinx, Telemann Fantasias 7 and 12. |
