Carlo is a great ambassador for the Organ, and getting people into serious organ music. His own playing however is poor and limited in repertoire. He's a lot like pavarotti really, whom many Opera conniseurs hate with a passion

Enough said

What do all you organ buffs think of Carlo Curley?

If there were ever a question that might end this thread, then this is it.

Watch, wait and see...........

Well, I'm sure I didn't mean to end the thread. I have to say that I agree with daveinnorfolk, and I know that my husband gives CC a wide berth too. I was just wondering whether our view was shared by others.

"Carlo Curly" and "wide berth" in the same sentence (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Who'd have thought?

I prefer to avoid Virgil Fox whenever possible.

Best wishes

Well apparently he's lost a lot of weight now, though I haven't seen him play for a number of years. What shouldn't be questioned is that he probably does still have a great technique, but doing lollipops all the time doesn't show him off. I have a friend who worked for Decca in the last century when CC was producing really top notch records of difficult repertoire.

The analogy with Pav is a good one. Why flog yourself to death doing something of minority interest to educated musicians (organ recitals to two men and a dog/singing on the opera stage) when there's big bucks to be made by clever marketing and promoting (big recitals with own organ/doing opera highlights in the park in front of the blue rinse brigade who would never set foot in an opera house).

And believe you me, CC is not cheap!

Several posts reported.

Advice on how to block the user so that one doesn't have to see the offensive material in Barry Clari's thread in the cafe.

I think that the term "lady" is somewhat of a misnomer, Barry.

For Baroque music and early music, my favourite Organist is Gustav Leonhardt

For French Music, my favourite Organist is Marie-Claire Alain

For really modern and Jazzy Stuff I absolutly Love Carol Williams - oh no I mean DR Carol Williams (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I would tell you the organists that I dont like but its not relavant to this post and after my last post on the organ playing of my tutor, ive been put off critisising people for a while.

It would have to be Theo Saunders largely because I know him, he used to teach me, and used to play at one of my churches.

I just played with google and apparently he got his FRCO at 20, I thought it was bad enough someone in the year below me at school getting his ARCO in the sixth form.

I love listening to John Kitchen in Edinburgh - he plays with such style and character.

Well, as a former pupil, I'm inclined to agree, and a great teacher.

I have to say, I've never been disappointed by Thomas Trotter. Superlative musician and great with audiences, an excellent ambassador for our instrument.
