Though I haven't gotten my results for my Grade 6 exam, I am keen on trying Grade 8 next year. I know there is lots of learn, and that I am not up to standard yet. Hence I decided to carry on practising before my next lesson.
I bought the G8 scale book for piano, and now I have newfound respect to those who consciously worked hard and passed ABRSM Grade 8., for all instruments, including voice The reasons: 1) There are SO MANY scales & arpeggios! Hands separate, hands together, legato, staccato, third apart, 6th apart, dominant 7th, diminished 7th, thirds, chromatic in minor thirds, whole-tone, first inversion, second inversion... Wow! I think I have to sit down and draft a schedule just to learn scales! 2) The sight-reading (sight-singing in the case of singers) piece is one full page. 3) Aural Tests are much more challenging! 4) Of course, the pieces are challenging and beautiful. What an achievement! If I manage to pass it this time, I'll be very impressed with my own hard work... No matter what people may say, no grade exam is a breeze, and Grade 8 certainly is no child's play! Applause for those who were certified Grade 8! You are all amazing!
