Hi all

I would love to visit a piano factory but understand that the last one in the UK has closed. Does anyone know of one maybe in France? Or if there is still one in the UK.

Thanks

The last one in UK was Kemble , which was taken over (like many others) by Yamaha around 3 or 4 years ago. Kemble pianos still exist, but thay are imported now. Sorry cant help much with France but I suppose Erard are still going , and of course Fazioli in Italy.

Jaques Samuels are organising a trip to Japan in 2013 with a tour of the Kawai factory. Not sure if that is of any help as it's a bit further than France and mega bucks.

Last month they organised a trip to the Fazioli factory so there is a chance they might do something like that again.

Thanks for the replies. My husband suggested France but maybe we could take a holiday to Italy. I think Japan may be a little expensive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Bosendorfer, Bechstein and Bluthner are a lot nearer than Japan! Although not actually manufacturing, there are still many reconditioning workshops in the UK. Look for companies selling reconditioned pianos in your area. I found all were quite happy to show me round their workshops.

There is a piano factory in Kent - at Finchcocks piano museum near Goudhurst they have started manufacturing and selling John Broadwood pianos (uprights) in a small workshop - I visited in September and a friend has since bought and taken delivery of one!

Thank you. I've found a couple fairly near so I'll give them a call. Thanks for the advice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
