Has anyone heard of, or have any information about Franz Bergner bows please?

I can't find anything on t'interweb but I think they're modern and made in Germany? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

Okaaaayyyyy so no-one's heard of them? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Another question... do people commonly use one bow for solo work (for example) and a different bow for chamber or orchestral work?

My teacher uses the same bow for both - well apart from when he's playing viola in quartets.

Most people will use the same bow for orchestral and solo work. Some top pros do have 2/3 bows depending on what is being played but that is rather an uncommon occurance.

The leader of the cello's in my orchestra has two bows. She different ones for different composers (last concert was Brahms and Rachmaninov next is Mozart and Mendelssohn and she's swapped bows.) Not sure what she uses for non orchestral playing. I believe the biggest difference between them is weight.

I use different bows for solo and ensemble work, but that's just down to personal preference in my case. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
