Just wondered when people start their Christmas shopping.

Now it's November I suppose people are gearing up for some serious spending. I always leave it too late and then can't get what I want and intend to start earlier than the week before Christmas this year!!!! I find it's not so bad buying presents if you know what people what, it's when you have to trundle around the shops in the cold and wet trying to decide what so and so would like.

Interested in your replies.

I tend to start early-ish. There's nothing worse than hairing round the shops with only a few days to go...

What I must start doing very soon is write Christmas cards. My list is fairly long...

These days, I tend to do a little of my Christmas shopping throughout the year. For instance, I bought a present for someone the other day, as it was an interesting little item that I may have struggled to find at home. If I chance to see something that is just right for someone when I'm on holiday, or whatever, I buy it. It's nice to have a little pile of "provisional" presents to give me a head start when the festive season comes around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm hopeless with Christmas shopping, and Christmas eve is always utterly manic! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I always attempt to start around this time, as I have several friends with birthdays between now and Christmas, so all the present-buying can get a bit manic! Also, with some of my friends I'll give them their presents at the end of term, which cuts down buying time a bit more!
I'm wondering now whether I'm going to do Christmas cards for everyone this year... I usually send them to friends I don't see often, but apart from that, I'm not sure if I'm going to be organised enough this year!

I've done most of my Christmas shopping. Only started properly last week but things just seem to have fallen into place. I'm not normally this organised but I'm worried about work so unusually I've been saving. I'm trying to keep a sum in reserve.

I've got something to get my eldest (don't know what), my Dad (just have to buy it) and my other half (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) I've never been this early.

I have got myself into the position of having to buy too many presents! It becomes more of a headache every year as people need less and less, so I think at some point I'll have to call a halt. Not yet though!

As Matthew said, it's nice to pick up things when you see them at any time of year, but I start proper Christmas shopping in October. I usually buy about a third of the stuff then, but each year it's the "easy" third, i.e. presents I've already thought of. November and December are fraught, as I try to find things for the other two thirds!

Still, it's all good fun really. I do like wrapping it all up and hoping people will appreciate their gifts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Bah humbug!! It's all commercial hype. Any presents I buy I'll purchase online, not trudging around the shops, which I don't have enough time to do anyway.

I start when I have the money!
This year I'm intending to make a list of what to get people instead of spending hours looking for stuff!

I make several of my presents. It's so much fun! I may start making cards for Christmas 2009 if I can make some time too.

I will only make one more trip to the city until the whole madness is over (somewhere around mid-january).

Currently I am trying to knit my best and oldest friend a pair of socks for her christmas but I think I'll only manage to finish one in time.

I'll still send her the one sock - she'll appreciate that, we have the same sense of humour (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
