Does it have to be unaccompanied? The 17th-century Nicolaus Bruhns was known to play the violin while putting in the bass line on the pedals.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif)
I too have been asked to play my violin for a couple of minutes this Sunday so this thread is really useful. Probably some slow Scottish air but I haven't chosen one yet as am just back from holiday. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/whistling.gif) I had considered trying to do that but I'd have to go to the church to practise it and it would sound horrific at first. The coordination required to play the violin and accompany yourself with pedals makes my head spin just thinking about it. The problem with the church is, that it is open all day. It is in the middle of the village and whenever I start practising the organ, the locals come in ... or even worse the tourists (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) who tend to sit there for ages and clap whenever I stop. It's not a tourist attraction people!!! Maybe I will have a go - I have some simple hymn tunes with chords written in that I could start with. Has anyone else on the forum tried accompanying themselves? |

Well I had a go today and it was really fun! It sounded good too though the violin wasn't as expressive or smooth as it normally is, probably due to jiggling around on the seat! Definitely looking forward to working on it some more. |

I had a go too and with a judicious choice of music it was much more possible than I thought it would be. I will have to pursue this further (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) .
