trying to figure out a proper practice routine, after far too long bumbling along, it's time to take things much more seriously all round (yes that does include scales and more theory). Where to start......

a scales rota
We still haven't had that theory session.

Going through a large box of photos. I have just picked out a pile of photos from the days I was in Primary School. I am not sure I needed to be reminded of that frankly quite hideous uniform, you certainly would never mistake it for any other school. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Watching darts. I think I'd rather watch football or BBC4.

... wondering how I can raise the money (lottery etc) to buy a bigger house in order to have the room and funds to purchase a cello..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

If OH would just kindly move into the shed in the meantime it could be kept on his side of the bed.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Not sure about money, but have you a 'cello sized space under your bed? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I decided to do that about 7 years ago - it changed my musical life!

I made the decision to do it properly for 4 months and then do a review and if it hadn't made much of a difference I'd go back to my usual meandering, playing for fun etc. After about 4 weeks it had already made a big difference. I started the regime in August, when I have a break from lessons, and when I went back in September my teacher was asking me "have you changed your mouthpiece? Your reeds? Your sax? You sound so much better".

My regime was based on having an hour to practice and it was something like 15 minutes practicing scales, 15 minutes on long notes (the thing that made such a huge difference to the way I sound), 15 minutes on a technical exercise and 15 minutes on a piece of music. I've reviewed it and changed it over the years, but all the elements are still in there.

It's so nice to read of these schedules/routines working. Glad it made such a difference to you TSax, you've inspired me to really crack on with this, thanks (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm listening to some chillout Thai folk music. A billion times better than those whingeing middle class nimbies that ring Jeremy Vine up, or that raving bigot who does the breakfast show on LBC.

They're not that big, honest (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) If you have a rigid case, they can stand up in a corner, or in the broom cupboard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Compared to viols, I was surprised at how good an instrument you can get for a "reasonable" amount of money.

Just emptied out and cleaned the fridge. Not a favourite pastime. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

Down here, it's not anything like as huge an increase as last year, but I'm still not wildly impressed...

Still makes me want to use the car for all but the longest of journeys. Thought they wanted to encourage people onto public transport.......

Public transport fares at your end of the country are eye-watering...

Some are, some aren't too bad (York Park and Ride return fare for example).
