I don't know where ABC is but I can locate the Music House - it's near the theatre isn't it - on the hill!

Yes, that's right (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I'd be interested to know what you think of it compared with Scheerers (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

ABC Music is on the outskirts of town, on King's Road, just off the Knaresborough/Skipton road. I'll let you know what it's like if I get there sometime, or if you get there first, please report back! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Promenade Music in Morecambe is worth a visit having a good selection of music and instruments. Check them out on their web site www.promenademusic.co.uk

I thought I'd copy this over from another thread cos it fits here too:

For those in North Kent/South London, I can highly recommend "The Bookshop" in New Ash Green, Longfield (01474 874194). They have a good new book/CD supply, and some second hand bits and pieces as well.

What I'm most impressed with is their ordering service. I ordered a load of books last Saturday, and I had a call on Wednesday to say they were in! Whereas, about three months ago I ordered a supply from a shop in Bluewater, and they haven't ever rung to say they have the books . (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) It's probably great if you're a drummer - they had quite a lot of drum kits on display, and a few guitars but no other instruments that I could see. They had a half decent selection of new sheet music (nothing like Scheerers) but they didn't have the new AB woodwind syllabus and didn't know it had changed. They had a bit of secondhand sheet music (quite a few pieces of oboe music, pianoboe) but it seemed to be quite pricey for secondhand music. It's not far out of town and there's easy parking, but I don't think I'll bother with it again.

I've just realised how organised Britten's of London are, for buying AB exam music. NB: I have no ulterior motive for saying this, other than being impressed!

http://www.brittensmusic.co.uk/examdisplay...008&grade=5

The prices look quite good aswell.

I also like Gillian Grieg's shop in Taunton, having used it quite a bit recently for mail-order items. However, another shop which I have found very efficient for mail order is Windows Music Shop, Central Arcade, Newcastle. They used to send out the music with an invoice instead of asking for payment 'up-front'. (not sure if they still do this!)

I'll remove Brittens on Wigmore Street from the list in my first post, and is it Freeman & Neale in Rugby that's closed as well - could somebody confirm please....? Any others to be removed or added to the list?

On the plus side, Music House in Harrogate has increased the size of their sheet music department. It now takes up all the basement floor - it's still not as big as Banks in York but it's pretty good.

Does anyone know if Music Notes in Liverpool is worth a trip? I pass close by sometimes and the web site makes it sound worth visiting - is it worth making a slight detour?

Incidentally Music Notes in Liverpool keeps a Teachers Register and they pass contacts on to pupils who are looking for a teacher in the area.

Sheehan's in Leicester (just moved to big new premises, now stock pianos!) Friendly people, utterly unpretentious - and owner Noel Sheehan is a nice guy

And of course the mighty Banks of York... not remotely as eccentric as it was in the 1970s...but nowhere is!

If you've got Kensington Chimes, why haven't you got Barbican Chimes?
