I sit on the right and in my entire life all of my teachers sit on my right side. I found some teachers sit on the left recently and for me, it's weird.

I sit left, as there isn't room on the right where my piano is. My own teacher however sits right. If you look at the Piano Adventures site the teacher there actually sits left.
I really don't think it matters much. |

I usually sit on the left as I find it is easier to write anything on the music.
However, I do vary my position, and often play at the top of the piano, because when I did the CT course, it was pointed out that pupils might vary in the way they understand and appreciate what you say depending on whether you sit at their right or left - depending on which way their brain is "wired". |

I sit on the right, mainly because of the way my teaching room is arranged, but also because I'm left handed, so it's easier for writing on the music. Also, when I play along with a student, I would tend to play higher on the piano. I have sat on the left in other rooms, though. I don't think it really matters. |

I'm not a teahcer, but my current teacher sits on the left while my previous sat on the right. It doesn't really affect me though which ever side they sit at.

I sit on both sides - on the right at home, and on the left at school (brick wall in the way at school). I don't really have a particular preference, but I suppose for duet playing sitting on the left means I don't have to move (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I don't have a choice either - I'm on the left, and all my teachers have been the same.

Varies, as I move around depending on what we're doing - but more usually on the right.

I sit on the right and both my teachers did. I go to the left for duets etc... but it would feel strange to me to sit there all the time!
Also, all my books/stickers/pens/rubbish sit on a shelf beside me where I can reach them, so I'd have to keep getting up if I sat on the other side (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif) |

My current piano teacher sits on the right, but i'm pretty sure my old teacher used to sit on the left.

Right. Personal preference really. I am right handed and find it easier to point/write if I am on this side. Also demonstrations of phrases/ exercises/scales etc sound better in the higher register.

On the left at home, but on the right at school........ (oh and on the left at school as well, as I teach in 2 different practice rooms on the 2 days, with pianos on the opposite wall in each room........). Couldn't tell you which I prefer.....oh (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) just remembered - on the right for my home upright piano, but when I teach on my grand piano, on the left...........! (Confused or what...... What do you mean, "which side"?? I just drape myself across it wearing my pink feather boa clutching a glass of red.....is this not the norm? Or maybe I have been spending too many evenings in the company of Alpha Male Jazz Cat and his assortment of grands just MADE for DRAPING........

*decides that Bagpuss teaching piano draped over the grand wearing pink feather boa, clutching a glass of red would look good in my brothel*
