If I have one thing I have missed in life, its that I would have loved to learn to play a woodwind instrument. I envy you all. I know its never too late to start, but I'd likely get thrown out of the house .

Construct a mini soundproof room out of duvets for playing in? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Why do I get the idea that this place will be my undoing? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) SO many bad influences on here... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I play the Oboe and not clari but reading the notes already will make it much easier.

Yes same here I play the oboe and it is a lot easier to read only one line of music instead of two staves.

Go for it Solari. The only problem is that once you have started a second instrument you will want to learn a third... and a fourth... and...

I love the clarinet and only wish I had started earlier!

I don't really have the time to do more than 2. I don't want to become a hermit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I still might get a Xylophone later on but it'll just be for fun, not for serious study (I hope).

Then just when you begin to feel halfway competent on the clarinet you discover.....

the Saxophone! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

It's great, go for it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/clarinet.gif)

Brass looks like too much effort, I'm not interested at all. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Thanks for the comments... most of my family are saying go for it too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I think I'm getting to half way competent on clarinet and I really have no desire to play sax.
I know it looks shiny but I don't think sax is brass....

Just be careful of trying to go too quickly on a second instrument. Take as much time as you need to get the basics in place. It will pay off later.

Ok, keep your wig on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

It's shiny and metal, hence me jumping to the conclusion (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Flutes were traditionally wooden? I don't remember seeing a wooden sax!

Good point well made (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The guys in my band always refer to "the brass section" when it is a trombone, trumpet and sax. Decided it's easier to roll with it now! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yes, flutes were traditionally wooden and some still are (both in the baroque and modern variants). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

You don't have to play the sax if you don't want to; lots of people enjoy crossing over from clari to sax and see the ease of doing so as an advantage. (Its not a brass instrument even though it may be made of brass, It's woodwind because of the way the noise is made... with a mouthpiece and reed very like a clarinet.)
