Just wondering if there is anyone doing flute grade 2 this term? It's my first music exam ever (at the age of 22!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I'm a bit scared and not quite sure what I was thinking when I told my flute teacher I wanted to enter for it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) |

Not doing it, but it was my first ever flute exam and my first music exam as an adult and I had a great time with it. The pieces were fun to play, the supporting tests were fine and the examiner wasn't at all scary. It was also my best mark (before or since).
Just try to enjoy it and not worry too much (easier said than done, I know). I doubt your teacher would've agreed to put you in for it if s/he didn't think it was well within your capabilities, and examiners seem to expect adults to be very nervous, especially if they're taking a lower grade (and therefore more likely new to the whole process), and will try to put you at ease. Good luck! T. |

The pieces I have chosen are (and I'll type this in full because I'm not highbrow enough to know the shortened names!!):
Allegro - Fourth movement from Sonata No3 in F (Second Suite) by Pepusch Hurdy Gurdy (from Dances of the Dolls) by Shostakovich Plaintive Flute by Alan Bullard - that's the REALLY hard one, with a cough (my annual winter cough has now arrived, unfortunately). Lots of loooooong notes. |

Not decided on pieces yet, but probably the Pepusch, Christopher Norton and Russell Stokes. But then again... |

Thanks for the replies everyone (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
I know deep down that I am ready for the exam, mostly worried about the aural part! And hoping that I don't get too nervous and hence end up fluffing up my scales/pieces (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) The pieces I'm doing are Largo (after trying Go to the Devil and Lass of Richmond Hill and another one..), If you go in you're sure to win and the study in A minor. It went fine (I think!) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Scales and pieces were fine, aural was easy (I hate aural!) and sight reading (which I usually like...) was evil (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Guess we'll have to wait and see til the results come through...
When I got there the examiner had just come back from lunch and was complaining that the room had been a bit cold in the morning. They then set up a heater in the room and by the time I got there it was boiling - I can't understand how he could have been comfortable in that heat (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) |
