I was told last year to pick AS subjects that 'complimented' each other. Three of mine do, but none really go with music. Will this effect being able to do music at uni? What subjects do go with music?

Well, for AS I did History, English Literature, Sociology and Music (oh and General Studies but that's pointless)

So, 3 essay subjects and Music. To be honest, Music is so different that unless you do something like Theatre Studies, there isn't going to be anything really close.

I'd go with what you want to do - not what the school wants you to do. As long as you do well in Music, and get good grades for the others, it won't affect your future career.

What else are you doing?

In correct English, that would be:

I was told last year to pick AS subjects that 'complemented' each other. Three of mine do, but none really goes with music. Will this affect being able to do music at uni?

Based on the evidence shown above, I'd advise you against doing essay subjects. Good luck with English Literature; you aren't going to find it easy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Ok, the poster might have made some spelling mistakes but doesn't mean they'll be bad at essay subjects! It is important that you can spell well, but in essay subjects teachers are looking much more for someone who can analyse, evaluate, who has good clarity of thought, and someone who can argue their case well, rather than their good spelling.

To the original poster - good luck, English Literature and History (can't comment on Politics) are amazing A Levels, I really enjoyed them. Are you starting AS this year? If yes and you're doing Jane Eyre, it's on the TV tonight.

I agree with you. I just think it's a shame that spelling and grammar standards seem to have slipped in schools, and that it's possible to obtain an excellent GCSE result without learning the basics of our language. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Back to the original question, Music and Math go well together. Perhaps physics, then you can understand why things sound the way they do. In theory anyway.

Yes - I'd say physics. There is a chapter on sounds etc. if you do the Salters Horners course (which is excellent). Maths too - no idea why, but it appears to go well.

Math and music are both abstract.

I suppose, to tell the truth it depends mostly on what you're good at and what you enjoy (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

What about languages and music? They're both different forms of communication.

I'm taking French, Spanish, Maths, History and Music and they're all connected to music in some way.
