There's much excitement in one household at the moment as a Grade 2 piano pupil awaits the arrival of a new baby brother or sister. I thought I'd take the opportunity to present some baby related pieces to learn. The notion has gone down well, so all ideas welcome....please! (I have a simple arrangement of Brahms' Lullaby & am scouring the internet for anything Berceuse/Wiegenlied/Cradle-song related but I need easy arrangements...)

Berceuse from the Dolly Suite (as arranged in Classic Experience Encores for Piano Duet) would be ideal. The RH goes pretty high but it is just an 8ve higher than the easy to read LH - it's in D major and contains mainly crotchets and minims - perfect! Great for playing to relatives and for concerts too.

If finding more suitable cradle songs of the right level is difficult, or if the repertoire all ends up sounding a bit similar, you could broaden your options by finding suitable pieces and then renaming them, eg. Blue Suede Booties - I'm sure you can think of better ones than me - the youngster is sure to find this fun!

'All Through The Night'
'Hush Little Baby Don't Say A Word'
'Simple Gifts'- not quite a lullaby but it's a lovely gentle tune imo.

I'll have it put to one side, ready....just in case (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I've found a duet arrangement of 'Sleep Little Prince too' (Mozart?). I guess I could amend the title to Princess if need be !

(I've been thinking more and more of sneakily altering the titles of some pieces anyway. Not for this little one, but for really awkward teens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) )

Actually I have the Classic Experience duet book somewhere, but for the life of me can't find it. It's disappeared with lots of other duet books . (Clearly I've put them all together somewhere...)

Thank you Primrose.piano : Hush Little Baby sounds good.I like Simple Gifts, but not sure if she'll see it as a 'Lullaby'. It can go in the pile though. This little one is highly capable, but can resist practising, so I'm hoping to keep the baby thing going for as long as possible.
