Hi. I attended/performed at the Cardiff concert that LooneyTunes arranged a while back and really enjoyed the experience.

Recently I've been itching to get out there and have another go but there doesn't seem to be anything on the events board for Wales. So I was wondering how much interest there would be if I could get something together?

I know some people travel by train so I'd guess it would have to be somewhere along the railway - between Carmarthen and Cardiff, which handily pretty much follows the route of the M4 for drivers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) For my preference it would be at the Carmarthen end, but I realise it is way out west for most of civilisation!

I have no idea when or where or even if this is do-able, but I thought it was worth canvassing for interest.

Cheers.

I certainly would be interested if it was near Cardiff. Swansea is also do-able for me.

I think that wherever forum events are held there will be an element of travel.

Interested, but Carmarthen would be just too far really for a day trip (4 hours train journey, just checked), and going away for a whole weekend is difficult. Could do Cardiff if the venue was walking distance from train station. Anything more than a 2.5 hour train journey is stretching it a bit for me.

That's roughly what I thought. Cardiff's around 2.5 hours away from me, so I figured it would be a useful mid point. Thanks for the reply.

Thanks Barry - I wasn't sure if LT was still reading the forums. Her status says last active in March and FB it's May. I didn't want to trouble her in case she's not well or really busy or something as she's been off line so long.

Thanks Barry. Maybe - if we decide to go ahead with this I could take over the admin if LT could book the same venue as last time? Do you think that would work? Or I could try and find somewhere closer to the station. - Any excuse for a trip to the violin shop. LOL!

Hello , I live west of Carmarthen ! I am endeavouring to play the piano and would welcome the opportunity to meet and hear other adult learner musicians . So much more fun than practicing on my own and something to look forward to .

I would love attend something. If we have enough notice it would give me enough notice to plan things so that DrD could prepare something on his guitar (Classical) and give and opportunity to play the piano. I don't teach him guitar, but do teach him singing (he's a tenor), it would be good for him to get a chance to do some solo work, but like many of the others South Wales would suit us better, although we do have a friend further North we could stay with to make the journey more worthwhile. (Dboys can either go on sleepovers or stay with relatives, so much easier now they are that much bigger!)

(NB Cambridgeshire to Wales is definitely Cross Country, but have Car, will travel!)

Hmm - so South East Wales is looking the favourite.

I guess the next question is when? Obviously people want some notice, and this year seems to be racing past, so I'm thinking to get a reasonable notice period that would taking us too close to Christmas. After that the roads can be bad. So I'm wondering about March 2012?

Is that a good time? I know there was an April Cardiff event - but April is a busy month for me so later March would be better, but - as we're still canvassing opinions what do you guys think?

Thanks for the replies. I'm starting to think this could happen.

At risk of being accused of bullying or manipulation you may want to consider the Surrey Adult Learners concert in February.
I know that geographically it's not close but unless you are pretty certain of getting numbers locally (this will probably mean having local off forum interest) it's possible that you will need a significant number of people from out of the area in order to cover your costs. Except where cost are very low I think there have been very few event where at least half of the participants have been from out of the immediate area.
Similar events close together in time can mean people needing to choose one or the other because of calls on their time and/or not being able to prepare two performances in a short time.

The two Cardiff events have been probably amongst the most successful in attracting non-forum members.

Having said that, I'd probably only attend two of Egham - Cardiff - Glasgow if your event is in March. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
