The Scottish school exam system now requires pupils to perform music from a published syllabus (to keep grades/levels more official!). However, as I only have a few old syllabuses (sp?), it rather limits the choice.

Does anyone know where I can get old syllabuses? would the ABRSM be able to provide me with them?

No idea, but perhaps it would be worth emailing the AB to see. I know they keep a few knocking around on thier site, but not many.

Presumably you will want these for quite a number of instruments? I think that some teachers keep copies of old syllabuses for just this reason and because it is interesting to refer back to.

Could you not use the various publications eg. some of the ABRSM publications indicate the approximate grading of the pieces?

If your talking about the SQA then you may have misunderstood slightly. There is no requirement that it has to be from a previous Board/Schools of Music syllabus. What it does allow is that if you are playing pieces from a current/previous syllabus then you don't need to seek verification from the SQA before including it as part of your programme. If you have a piece you consider to be of a certain standard which is not on a syllabus e.g. for Higher (Gr. 4) then you would just need to ask your student to take a copy into school and ask their teacher to send it to the SQA for verification.
