Does the sound come out of the oboe, or from somewhere else ? It comes from the reed. It isn't the octave keys. flobiano is right. It's from the octave boxes (probably 1) not the reed. It isn't the octave boxes. Different sound, just like fat spitting in a frying pan. Quite loud and I find very annoying. I have suffered something similar a couple of times and it definitely felt like it was a reed problem but actually turned out not to be. Once it was indeed an octave box. It was weird, though - there must have been some disruption in the air flow that made me think (feel/hear) there was a problem in the reed. |

Could you please stop letting your bunnies make pancakes inside the oboe reed, it makes a terrible noise?? |

I watched Graham Norton's show last night. Sandi Toksvig was a guest on there. She laid on the floor and did an impression of Danish bacon (she being Danish herself) curling up in the frying pan. I was willing her to make frying pan noises, but alas she didn't. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) YAY John Shuttleworth (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The frying pan noise was what one of my teachers called the noise I was describing, so it must be quite a commom strange noise. I have heard it quite a lot. Some people make it for entire days on courses and never seem to investigate where it might be coming from. |
