sounds about right (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)


A lot of the old Boosey and Hawkes arrangements would be direct transcriptions of the orchestral version. Often the 1st violin part would just be lifted and transferred to solo clari. What works well on the violin may not work so well on the clarinet...

Yes...that's what I think after a programme of such music!

You must have played some of the old transcriptions of orchestral overtures (eg Poet and Peasant, Marriage of Figaro). They're even worse for breathing!

Didn't read this yesterday. Thanks for the well wishes. It went well. There were the odd couple of errors. My clar developed a couple of minor squeaks whilst playing up in the rafters but I don't suppose it'd have been all that noticable to anyone apart from me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) (My fellow solo player had a little squeak too so don't know if down to nerves, the notes or the atmospheric conditions - it was really hot!!) And a gurgle for a bit on the open G but that soon resolved. I even got a small "solo" bit (it's actually a horn cue but for some reason one of the claris play it) and I took the top line in the pieces that split.

The last piece "An Andrew Lloyd Webber Celebration" which we do with the choir was such a buzz. Such a high note to end on. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

The Tad Chorale are fantastic too!!!! They are available for free to help support charitable fundraising. Let's just say it's given me an idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) for a local fund-raising event ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I think I might be back to playing second now though.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I don't really mind I'd just love to have the opportunity to perfect these pieces prior to any more chances I may or may not get to play top in concert.

However, my teacher's currently ill and at least two of the top players won't be there on Monday and at least one may not be available for the next concert in a couple of weeks so watch this space.....

My co-player was really pleased that I'd "helped her out" and seemed to think I did well and a couple of other members said that the band was sounding good "up top" too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I just feel that mistakes on the solo part are more exposed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) BUT that I played these parts better than I actually played the 2nd part at the first concert I did too so it just shows how far I've come and I'm pleased with that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm aware that I wasn't the only one making mistakes - it's just that we dwell on our own more isn't it??

All in all a good concert and I'm proud of myself (IMG:style_emoticons/default/hurrah.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Also, my version of Bring Him Home involves octave playing - not so easy on a clarinet, when our register key takes us up by a twelfth! Really impressed that you've played this stuff in a concert - if I'd been better organised I would have come along to hear it! Perhaps next time!
