Lots of people like 5s and 6s I've noticed - wonder why (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I suppose because they're out of the ordinary. SO much stuff in pop culture is written in 4, in fact nearly all of it. Tune to Radio 1 (after purchasing earmuffs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)), and count how many tunes are in 4. I bet it's 100%.
So I guess the 5s, 6s and 7s are just a bit jolly, when they rarely come along. |

6/8 too. Woah, I'm unoriginal...
It's just easier to sight read, and has nice rhythms. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

It's also one of my favourites, along with 5/4 or 5/8. 9/8 is also gorgeous, I know a lovely slip jig called The Butterfly in it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) |

I like 6/8 or 9/8. Well actually I used to just not "get" 9/8 but I played some awesome slip jigs with a fiddle band over Easter which converted me. Fibi - may have to go find The Butterfly now...

Wow - I thought I was weird to like 6/8 but it seems pretty popular so I guess I'm not alone! yay.
Yeah 6/8 is my favourite to play cos it's easy to count (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

I have an old scribbled photocopy of it which a fella who gave me a couple of trad lessons gave to me, but I think that's probably in my parents' house somewhere. I actually heard Martin Hayes the fiddler on the radio playing it recently (it's probably on one of his CDs if you can find them), but he plays it about three times as fast as anyone else I've ever heard (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) Actually I think it sounds nicer a bit slower, it has a lovely almost-melancholic lilt to it |

I'm always happy when I see 17/16, because it means I'm playing Janacek's "Mladi".

At orchestra we played the English Folk Song Suite (Seventeen Come Sunday) and it had a 6/8 time signature against a 2/4 time signature! It was pretty awesome. I like 2/4, 6/8 and 9/8.
