QUOTE(andante_in_c @ Nov 28 2010, 05:46 PM) *

I've only just seen this, and had to add that our family had a very similar experience - it was loved by all our boys, and kept us going through many a car journey. In fact, whenever I hear any part of the WotW I am immediately transported to an alpine pass as we listened to it whilst driving through the Alps to Italy. My OH is going to see the live show in a couple of weeks (but I was otherwise engaged at a certain Houseparty!). (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Back in the 70s I was on the Isle of Man spectating on the Manx International Rally. We had WotW on cassette in the car and sitting on a moor in the middle of the night with rally car spotlights sweeping the sky while the top unscrewed on that capsule was very atmospheric. QUOTE(The Old Lady @ Nov 21 2010, 10:41 PM) *
Forever Autumn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)
Back in the 80s we lived in Darlington, and one of our three lads borrowed from a friend a copy of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds LPs and, ahem, they accidentally found their way onto a cassette*. Living where we did, it was always a long car journey to see family (Essex and Sussex) and friends we had made when we lived in Coventry, and we were each allowed to choose a couple of cassettes for communal listening in the car, the rules being that we were allowed to choose anything that we liked and there were to be no complaints when it was our turn to listen to our choice.

The one choice that everyone liked, including our youngest who was then about 8 was the Jeff Wayne one, so it was invariably someone's choice in every car journey. As a result, I became able to sing every word of every song, and even mastered most of Richard Burton's dialogue. ("Who would have believed......"). I have to say that I never tired of listening to Forever Autumn, and the words "...'cos you're not here" always brought a lump to my throat.

*I am so sorry for this bit of illegal practice, and by way of compensation I have bought the CD Special Edition, the DVD of the live performance, and been to see a live performance in Sheffield. Absolutely great stuff!

I live in Darlington now. Its really gone downhill lol

Got Pachelbels canon in my head. Which doesn't bother me in the slightest since I think its absolutely beyond divine and beautiful.

I think we all get earworms (I like that word) from time to time. Does anyone but me have a reliable way of getting rid of them? Mine works for me but probably won't work for anyone else: I sing the Wombles Christmas song (All together for the chorus now: "Aaaaall daaaay long we will be Womb-e-ling in the snow, We wish you a womb-e-ling merry Christmas, da dum da dum da dum da, Aaaaall day long etc.") This, for me, will displace Anything!. Of course, merely having this as an earworm instead would be no better, indeed might well be worse. However, the good bit is that having displaced the original earworm this song then disappears itself, leaving me with a clear head, at least for a while.

Norwegian Wood, was thinking about yesterday & remembered DaisyChain played it and now it's firmly in there..

There are those of us who regard the Hippopotamus song as at least as good as Norwegian Wood, if not better!

Well, the last thing I wanted to cause after a good afternoon's singing was offence. Obviously I have! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) I wasn't happy with my playing of NW so was pleased that corenfa had gone from Hippo to Wood. It was only ever meant to be a joke.

Apologies to Tom or anyone else....

Gaudete - I'm sure everyone will know this but if you don't recognise the title, there are lots of Youtube clips! It was played by the Senior Strings at our music centre concert yesterday and I think it's just hauntingly beautiful and extremely Christmassy! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

Sometimes I won't get a whole tune stuck in my head, but maybe 2 bars over and over and over again. It's usually bars that begin a sequence, but in my head I can't modulate and so the sequence happens over and over again in the same key. It's marginally annoying, but not as annoying as my friends find it when I repeat the same thing to them all day!
