This weekend I am starting my search for a new violin. I am expecting it to be a long and tiring process but quite exciting at the same time.

I hope that whatever violin I end up with will last me many years to come.

I have set aside the following budget:

Violin: 6k GBP
Bow: 2K GBP - I will be keeping my 550 GPB as a good quality back up/spare
Case: ordered today and paid 338 GBP including the postage charge.

Living in London means I will have a choice of many string shops to go to to try out lots of instruments. Hopefully I will fall in love with a violin soon and own a beautiful sounding new instrument before the new year.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)!

Violin Hero - enjoy your search it sounds like a rather exciting one. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I remember the vast choice over something like a clarinet, when I used to play viola - don't anymore and want some more time to dedicate to it if I do start again!

They have just e-mailed me to say it will be 7-10 days before they get the case in stock. I am inclined to wait as is the one I like the most out of the ones I have looked at.

They kept telling me that, but it took 5 weeks in the end and I nearly cancelled it ! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
I stuck it out because I wanted the model with a red velvet interior, as I gave it to my wife as part of a ruby Wedding present (as well as some jewellry)

My musical visits today will be Bishops and Ealing Strings. I will report back on my findings!

I hope to possibly get to Guivier during the week otherwise that will be for next weekend.

If anyone knows any other suitable places I can visit let me know.

I like Ealing strings. They have so much choice and they'll get loads out for you and leave you as long as you like in a practice room with no pressure. You won't get out of there in a hurry though, that guy can't half talk!
Have fun (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
