The A224 module website is now open! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) If you've registered then all the books and assessment materials are online in pdf format. I'm skimming through everything now. ...but it's just not the same when you can't get to work with the highlighter pens. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Au contraire - Adobe Reader lets you do highlighting (in lots of pretty colours) and writing in the margins and other helpful things because the OU supplies PDFs in a format which allows you to edit them. It is also possible, as someone mentioned in the tutor group forum for my current course, to use a freeware program called Calibre to convert the PDF course books to Kindle format. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Okay I'm biased because I use the alternative formats for functional reasons but electronic copies can be a lot more versatile than dead tree format. |

Haha, I sit corrected. I, however, shall have to wait for my dead tree format books, pens at the ready; because I wouldn't have a clue how to make my computer do all those clever things. |

Depends which version of Adobe you have and which version the items were produced in... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) For AA317, the highlighting etc isn't available on all the materials (just Libretti, Texts, Scores and TMA book - not course books). |

I think I am the only one that hasnt received them yet! I haven't received mine either - but I did sign up later than most from the sounds of it. Ho, hum. Can't even access the internet versions yet. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)I have mine now, hope you get yours soon. I opened the box to check everything was there, then stacked on the bookcase without looking through the materials. I cant afford the distraction with Tma6 imminent and taking my disabled mum for a little holiday at the weekend. |

So now the course has started, how's everyone doing? I've skimmed through Block 1, had a go at TMA01 and just started plodding my way through Unit 5 - counterpoint is so far going okay, just about to start 2nd species so that might change quickly!

I waited until last week to start the course and am not aiming to get ahead of the schedule by much as I need to get into the habit of doing a bit at a time in my free time during the week. My main issue has been trying to think myself into the position of someone with limited musical experience so that I can work out what the exercises need me to do.
I know that I can complete TMA01 in about fifteen minutes flat, as it is stuff I do all the time, so that one isn't concerning me. It's all the others with an essay portion - it's a long time since I wrote one of those. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) |

I've skimmed TMA01 and know it won't take long (less time than any of the TA212 TMAs that's for sure). I'm finding that being disciplined and writing answers down for the activities is helping me stay focussed and hopefully means I won't miss the point when the material is new to me. I'm finding the volume of posts on the student cafe daunting - I can't get over how much and often some folks post! |

I've got three OU courses under my belt (Certificate in Humanties and Diploma in Creative Writing) I stopped a couple of years back due to family circumstances but really fancy looking back into next year.
Did anyone ever find out if A224 is going to be accepted as a grade 6 theory substitute by ABRSM? |
