Hi there everyone.I am taking the dip piano exam 2 months later.below is my repertoire.

J.S.Bach:Prelude and Fugue in f minor,BWV857
Beethoven:sonata in E op 14 no.1
Brahms:ballade in g minor,op.118 no3
Faure:barcarolle in a minor,op 26 no 1
Gershwin:The man I love and I Got Rhythm

I would like to ask about Bach, there is inadequate programme notes about them,I just include some information about the WTC but not the music piece.Anyone can help me?

Also I would like to ask if the examiner would ask some question like the subject of the fugue. These questions seem too informative and I dont' know if I should prepare for them or not.

Last,What is the consequences if I play several notes wrongly during the performance? For instance, the ballade is a difficult piece and I always play them not accurately.

Thx

I was asked a number of detailed questions about the fugue I played from WTC - things like where the subject entries came in, various episodes etc so you should be prepared to answer some questions of this nature.

I was asked questions about other works by Bach which were written around the same time as the WTC - it's worth knowing some of these including one or two things for other instruments. I think it is sufficient to talk about WTC generally rather than try to be too specific about one P&F. I was also asked what other instruments Bach composed for and some works.

You should also be able to talk about the differences between historic instruments and the modern piano - if possible include something on this in your programme notes (I didn't and it was commented on but I was able to talk about it in the viva).

Some thoughts - good luck with your preparations.

oh thank you for your kind reply

If I remember correctly, the numbering system in JS Bach 's work is not according to the time.

The BWV number doesn't suggest the composing year right?

Then what kind of Bach 's work should I look into?

I am thinking of WTC book 2,they might ask me about the difference btw 2 and 1 .

It seems like preparing for bach is time-consuming =.=

Anyway thank you so much.
