Has anyone doing grade 5 piano for 2011/12 had problems with the cd for the grade 5 pieces, I have just played it for the first time, and find that after the first three of four pieces, it plays pieces from grade 6 2002 this is showing on the screen on windows media player. The cd is certainly not playing pieces from the grade 5 piano exam pieces.

Sounds like you need to take or send it back and get a new one.

Sounds like you need to take or send it back and get a new one. I agree. I have had no problems with my copy of the CD There must be others, though - you don't get just one in a batch doing that The supplier is very kindly sending me a replacement, very kind of them do not want this one back that is faulty. |

We had a very similar problem - bought the CD this time last year. When played on the computer Media Player it told us we were listening to the Grade 6 CD and the track listing was inaccurate. I think it did have all the Grade 5 pieces Daughter ended up learning but we informed the supplier and they sent us a replacement. Thanks, billyboy, you've reminded me I should dig out the original CD and see what Grade 6 pieces we've got for nothing! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
Grade 4 or 5 violin showed up as a different Grade on Media Player as well and didn't have an accurate track listing but all the pieces were present and correct - so I think this may be a quite common problem. |

I don't know how much it is worth buying the cds. There are a load of people on youtube who try to get all of the songs up from the new syllabus within a month or two of it being released. They don't normally have the best dynamics or expression, but you can get the gist of what you're meant to play. And it's free.
If you don't want to wait for a replacement I'd suggest searching for grade 5 piano in youtube. But this advice is probably more for those who haven't bought it yet! |

I like the cd because it gives you an idea of the suggested speeds for the exam, I do go on youtube and the difference is the speeds which different players use, some of the tempo's on the same pieces are unreal and some of the recordings are of poor quality, but thanks for the suggestion |

The recordings are good quality as you'd expect but they are still only a starting point, not necessarily something you'd like to copy. Youtube renditions are varied and if you've time it can be a useful exercise to listen to a few and think about which are good or otherwise and why. |

But of course yu do need to remember they aren't all meant to be models of how to play it, or tutorials. Some of them are "look at me playing my grade 5 piece, I've nearly got it now" |

The download facility on abrsm is another good option, you can get the exact pieces that come on the cd, whilst only paying for the ones you need. No glitches with the tech as far as I'm aware either! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Of course if your really lucky you could find a concert level performance from someone as well. But ABRSM usually pick songs that are just obscure enough to escape this possibility.
