Hi all!

Just wanted to add a little update about my primary school orchestra. We did our first performance on Tuesday at the school end of year ceremony. It was a great success! The kids were all seated in a nice formation with music stands borrowed from the senior school. They performed very well (despite my 2 oboes deciding they hated each other and spending the rehearsal squabbling (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) ) and even managed to 'tune' at the beginning like a 'big orchestra' (as they said themselves).

They are now asking to learn Star Wars and Harry Potter next year and I am looking forward to spending the summer doing simple arrangements for them.

Thanks to everyone who gave me tips and advice for the orchestra and to everyone who helped with my saxophone and her crazy tuning! Her teacher greased her cork, so I didn't have to actually do anything (having arrived in school armed with the vaseline!) But then she couldn't remember how to play C natural so I had to rewrite her part in rehearsal to leave it out (although I have since been told that C natural is no fingers!!!) After spending weeks fretting about it and asking a million questions about it, it turned out that she wasn't there for the performance as she has gone away for 4 months! But, I learned LOADS in the process and am sure it will all come in handy next year.

For anyone considering setting up a group like this: Go for it! It has been brilliant fun and a great learning experience for me too!

Now I can relax and enjoy my very long holidays!

C# is no fingers. C natural is the left hand middle finger only (on the middle key).
