So i'm a cornet player and play trumpets sometimes but never owned one =( I'm looking to buy one as soon as i've earnt enough money. A friend recomended John Packer instruments and was wondering if the JP251SW trumpet is any good? Does anyone own one? or know about it? If not any they can remend? http://www.johnpacker.co.uk/Catalogue/Bras...ishes-available thanks |

I dont know the first thing about trumpets or Brass for that matter but I would beware very cheap instuments..the issue tends to be the quality of the metal..possibly made in China..there have been some cases of flutes discolouring or worse having toxic metals in them..Yes really, there may not be sufficient strength in the instrument itself if the materials it is made from are not of a reasonable quality..
As I have no idea what a fairly decent trumpet should cost I have no benchmark to advise you but the old adage always holds that as a rule you get what you pay for.. Maybe have a look round for a decent second hand model, I am sure you will get a much nicer trumpet at a fraction of the cost of new and a far better trumpet for your hard earnt money..Talk to other trumpet players or speak with your local Band and see who has got what for sale..word of mouth is generally the best recomendation you can get.. Good luck Andrew |

You get what you pay for - like anything :L So be careful of cheap stuff! Its likely that the Coating will be cheap and start peeling, the metal will be bad quality (effecting the sound) and the welding between sections will be poor. You would probably have to replace said cheap trumpet relitavly soon :L
I'm guessing you probably want something thats more of a begginer standard just to mess around with? So your probably looking at wanting to spend about ?500 - ?600 for one that would last for messing around with. For something that your looking at using more 'full time' and seriously you would probably want to be looking at spending somewhere bettween ?1000, and ?1500 Hope this helped a bit.... |
