Just back from Benslow Wind chamber music course. I had a good time playing in different groups and I could definitely feel the difference in my playing in one year. It was also nice to meet old friends and few new people. But there is still a lot to learn. Many (more than half!) of my pieces had three sharps and some had 4 sharps! I also need to work on playing comfortably in altissimo especially at a fast tempo. As there were only four clarinets in the group, I ended being the first clarinet in the band!! I was bit exposed on the first night, so from the next session onwards one of the tutors doubled the part with me. The smaller ensembles were great too. Overall, a good experience. Excellent balu (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I remember my time on solo clari last year, terrifying at the time but I was glad I'd had that opportunity (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I have a lesson on Friday, first one for a long time and possibly the last for a long time too............... |

Very glad to hear you had a good time. I am going to my first Benslow wind chamber music course in June. Hoping that I'll have a good experience too. I'm really looking forward to it! Thanks, Louise! I remember you playing the 1st Clarinet last year. In fact, two of the pieces were the same! It helped as I knew the rhythm and I only had to concentrate on getting the notes right.
Flobiano: I think you will enjoy. Hopefully, there should be other players with your high standard! This year there were a few Grade 8 level flautists who were put in a group together. Their final performance was beautiful. I also liked the Elephant from Saint-Saens played by a Bassoon Quartet (including our own Bassonista). It's not something one could see everyday. |

Pleased to hear I'd got the basics of tonguing right and that with practice it will improve! More rhythm and sightreading practice which I've done better on but I am rather tired today so hope that's why. Practice from now on will involve possible pieces to play for NWA adult learners in July. If I ever needed an incentive then this is it!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/eek.gif)

I had my lesson Tuesday. Some tricky pieces I thought I managed to do at home went totally wrong in the lesson. Even the pieces I played along well with the cd at home went wrong. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/argh.gif)
But the pieces with the demi semi quavers went well. On my way home I came along the ice-cream shop. I couldn't resist and bought myself a big ice-cream, that made me feel much better. For next time more tricky pieces to learn. One with the clarion a,b c, these are still very unstable. I notice that home work is getting be more challenging because I have less time and energy left afterwards to play some fun pieces. |

I can't decide whether or not to start piano lessons again. I've been tempted to for months, ever since I went on leave from school, but until recently I didn't feel like I had the capacity to concentrate and deal with additional pressure. I'm doing better and am making enough money... but still vacillating like crazy... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

My lesson was fine. The tricky pieces went well. New tricky ones to learn for next time.
