New challenges! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yay.gif) And the nugget sounds good. Maybe I should think about for flute playing. No, I already know, that it's true for flute also. Slightly off topic, for which I apologise, Dawn, but on the flute it is simply a matter of allowing the mechanism to raise the keys for you. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Back on topic, although not a violinist I am really enjoying the story of your journey, Dawn. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Bit of fun there too at the moment, lead flute is away (see argh thread) and I was all confident to solo the parades this weekend - until BM put the slaves chorus on for Sunday. Now I'm panicking about the really exposed centre section!! |

Yup, out of the frying pan and into the fire...(see the arrgh thread). I did say as much to you.... but yes, I suppose I'm back in a violinny way too - well once I've performed one of these! Teacher was happy with me this morning, he can see the improvement in LH position and articulation from yesterday. Coordination still needs to improve and RH needs more work as always as I'm tensing after the first line or so. It will come. And how are your stopped harmonics ?? Glad to hear the Bartok is your Frankenstein!! We'll see about the pagannini. Had me doing 8 notes together legato today. Shows up all the dodgy string crossings LOL Now he wants me to practice 2 notes at a time legato and separate, and then do it bar together to see how it sounds, then back to 2 notes etc. Then line by line. Lots to do! |

aww thank you andante_in_c!! And I need to apply this to the flute as my fingers just don't work fast enough on that. That's exactly what I meant. I am sometimes just too slow with taking my fingers off the keys and I have to work on that. I think it's good to switch attention to this. |

Interesting band rehearsal last night, 1.5 hours of playing solo violin with them!! Romance was good (well alright through the shakes) and then Schindlers List got dropped on me. Sight read it - going up to a top G, finishing on a top A, I think this is a special band arrangement.
I'm now playing the romance and Will Ye Go Lassie Go (with the pipes and drums (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) on the 4th Nov. Not alot of time. I'm working on them again on Thursday's rehearsal, amplified this time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) I'm just happy that the new Band Master wasn't disappointed!! Now back to those semiquavers..... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) you are their little 'jackie of all trades' (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) sounds very nice actually, now that I have seen you in the band I can just about imagine, it will be great! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/party1.gif) and you'll soon get used to the attention and the shakes (and vac (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)) will go away (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Awful 2 lessons this week! BUT have found the problem, now just to cure it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)
1st lesson I'd not done enough slow practice, the other pieces had eaten into my technical work. So 1.5 hours of slow practice later and I'd nearly memorised the first page. But as soon as I'm concentrating on remembering notes too much the weight goes out of my arm, it all tenses up and then the tone goes. And if I was playing at full speed my arm would drop off! Now I know why he picked this piece, it's impossible to get through more than half if you have tension anywhere (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Back to basics again for me - although he did comment that my knuckles are much better and thumb too (although it needs to flex more), and LH. Using the moto perpetuo as a study, I'm back to stopping the bow every few inches and pausing to relax. Think relax all the way through! I'm fine at the beginning of the bow and then tense halfway up!! I seem to be over halfway there compared to when I started so that is encouraging, just need to crack the biggie for me - I'm quite a nervous person so it's a bit of an alien feeling! |

LOL thanks but can I just quantify...when I say halfway there...."There" is having a good technique. A relaxed playing style!!
Moto perpetuo is going to take much longer LOL |
