...so who else thinks The King's Speech will win nearly everything... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Not sure - heard on the radio there'd been some anti-KS media - I think it was saying the king was anti-Jewish. The programme's speaker said they thought it was a deliberate Oscar-knocking tactic and explained how the people saying that had got the wrong end of the stick over a speech he'd made about repatriating people (all to do with when he'd said it apparently). I could probably have put that better, but I haven't seen the film yet.Have seen Black Swan and was a little underwhelmed. The characters were a bit too 2D for me, but on the other hand I did find it quite disturbing - so I must have engaged with it. On a shallower note - Soooooo looking forward to the red carpet. Living here - "dressing up" is a new pair of wellies. So I shall get my vicarious posh frock thrills this evening. |

I really can't see why the King's Speech is winning so many awards. Based purely on the film, I didn't find it particularly gripping (although the scene where Rush's character steps out into sheets of rain, really made me homesick for Scotland (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) ). A while back, I also read Christopher Hitchen's take on the film which I felt was very interesting.
In the interests of full disclosure, I should say that Aronofsky is my favourite director and so it is difficult to be fully objective, however, I thought Black Swan was incredible. Clint Mansell's score was excellent too, although as with Jonny Greenwood's score to There Will Be Blood, it lost out on the chance of an Oscar having contained pre-existing material. |

I really can't see why the King's Speech is winning so many awards. Because it's a real "luvvy" film. It always annoys me how Sci-Fi films never really get a look in with any category apart from best special effects or similar. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Why is such a fuss made about these industry awards?
The awards ceremonies for other industries don't get all this attention. |
