Hi, I was hoping you'd be able to answer my questions:
I am taking my Grade 6 Flute exam in a few weeks. I wanted to know: - When doing the scales, is it in even notes (not long tonic)? - When you do slurred scales, when do you need to tongue - eg is it the first note of each octave, or not at all? My flute teacher wasn't very sure when I asked her, cos she specialises in sax. Many Thanks! |

Hi SG violin & flute, as far as I can say from memory: - the scales are to be played in even notes (quavers) exept the last note that is to be played as crotchet. - when playing slurred you should play four notes in one slurr and then start with a tongued one. It is described in "scales and arpeggios for flute" and I will look it up tonight when I am at home again to make it sure (if not someone else does it during today). |

The scales are slurred all the way through - unless you need a breath at the top (as Andante in C said in your other thread in the Teachers' forum). I took my Grade 6 flute last term, and this is what I was taught to do by a teacher specialising in flute. By the way, which pieces are you playing? |
