Hey guys, nice to meet you.
Ok so... I know that the DipABRSM, LRSM and FRSM are stuff we aim for after grade 8 right? I'm still not sure what they really mean, but nonetheless compared to a conservatory or university graduate, is the latter in any way more "respected" than someone with a DipABRSM, LRSM or FRSM? What I'm asking is that are graduates from universities and/or conservatories more recognized by the masses? |

So far as performance diplomas go, approximately: DipABRSM - Equivalent level to end of first year at Conservatoire LRSM - Equivalent level to Conservatoire graduate FRSM - Equivalent level to Masters degree in performance The same LEVEL, but narrower content, so not equivalent to a full course of study at College/University or Conservatoire Respect? I think the various diplomas are more widely recognized by the masses, but amongst trained classical musicians I have noticed a definite snobbiness and assumption of superiority in some who have attended conservatoires full time towards musicians that did not enjoy that privilege. |

The syllabus is very helpful in describing the level of attainment associated with each Diploma.
As for 'the masses' - can you describe who they are? Potential employers? Other musicians? The man in the street? |

The man in the street? The average man in the street (or "the man on the Clapham Omnibus") knows nothing of the DipABRSM, LRSM or FRSM and cares less. University degrees he thinks he understands. The average woman on the street is probably much the same but less assertive. |

Thanks for clearing things up for me, but judging by the comments here would it be safe to say that a conservatory/university graduate would possess a slight advantage over LRSM and FRSM's in their profession, since they are considered full-time scholars of music and are generally more recognized by people?

If i were hiring someone, i would chose the person with the FRSM/DipAB/LRSM instead of the one who graduated from a conservatory.
