Too much to do, too little time, too little motivation... and that's just playing flute.

Aaargh!!!

My mum has just announced to me that we might be going skiing at half term! (Which, in itself, is great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)).

I have a big coursework deadline the day after half term and had been counting on doing the majority of the work over the holidays, given there has been absolutely nothing to suggest we might be going away. I also have loads of other work to do before half term (in particular for the composition interim deadline on friday), so am going to have to work absolutely full-time to ensure the coursework is done before next weekend... and that estimate is ignoring any work that any teachers happen to give out this week.

It would be ok if it were certain we were going skiing, but it looks like it's going to be a very last minute decision, so I can't wait till then before getting stuck in. I can see I'm going to end up working myself into the ground just to find that we're not actually going anywhere.

Im going skiing the first week of our easter break, in Austria.
I hope you have a good time though, if you do go.

Poor Sarah! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/thereThere.gif) I suppose the upside is that if you get all the work done next week, even if you don't go skiing at least you'll be able to have a good break.

Talking of breaks, did I see that you've cracked yet another piece of recorder? Where do you normally store your recorders? I'm sure you will know about trying to keep them at a fairly constant temperature, but what happens if you have to take them into college? It seems wrong that three different pieces have cracked.

A certain family member (in-law) has announced that they wish to come and stay over the weekend of my birthday. My other half, lacking gumption, did not think to say that we had other plans. Massive row - I really cannot face an invasion over my birthday, and am now feeling guilty to boot. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

That's the other problem with going away: I won't be around to answer the phone if mollenhauer rang and would be completely unreachable, so it would make sorting the whole thing out a bit difficult.

They're stored on a shelf in my room (relatively warm, but constant temperature, and I don't think it's particularly dry). So the only time they move out of my room is to go to lessons, so for a couple of hours a week in a snuggly case, so you'd have thought they would be up to that. Interestingly though, my descant shows absolutely no signs of cracking (well, i guess it wouldn't, but I 'just know' it's ok, whereas with the treble, i was always on edge), although it is the same wood (but different make), so that would suggest it isn't from the temperature/humidity.

I'm so sorry, Sue. These things are difficult. You will either have to bite the bullet and accept the invasion (maybe celebrate your birthday the following weekend?) or offer the in-law another date.

I ended up spending my birthday with in-laws this year and it was much better than I expected - they really spoiled me. It's different when they come to you though. Could you suggest that you all go out for a meal to celebrate your birthday?

Um, is it possible that you could take some work with you to do in any non-ski-contact time?

You have my sympathies SueHM. Bit of a cheek to "announce that they are coming to stay"! It tends to mean a huge amount of work (or it does in our house where tidying up is a major part of making room for visitors) - I hope your OH will do the largest share of the work since it's his relative that's coming! Could you feed them on M&S food just this once?

This isn't really an aaaarggghh - just a moan!

I joined a choir just before Christmas and was really looking forward to doing some singing again, but it's all gone sour on me. We seem to have had stand-in conductors almost every time I've been. Two weeks ago the real conductor actually arrived for the first time, only to explain that he's been recruited for Salzburg and won't be with us any more (lovely for him, not so good for us!). Last week's rehearsal was cancelled for snow. The chap who's agreed to conduct our next concert at the end of March lives near Banbury so didn't come tonight because the forecast was bad. We'll be having yet another conductor for the June concert.

Just feeling rather fed up as I was looking forward to making music, and all we seem to do is note bashing as "we don't know how the conductor will want it". I'm sick of everyone singing at the top of their voice; I can't hear what I'm supposed to be singing, and it just doesn't feel like music. I don't particularly like singing opera choruses anyway; just thought it might get me back into enjoying singing, whereas it's made me feel I was a fool to bother. My mum is supposed to be going to a different hospital today for some treatment. It has taken the family a fair while to persuade her to have this treatment. However she appears not to be going now because neither hospital is able to find an ambulance to transport her from one hospital to the other.
