It is shocking, even if people have been ill for a while, you don't really expect it.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. When one of my friend's lost her mum earlier this year, it was a shock to the system. I had known for a few months that she was sick (she stopped responding to chemo), but it will still a shock to find out, it was also a shock when we realised they weren't in school and then got a message saying that all was not well and that she wasn't expected to make it through the day. I found out the afternoon after she went about it. What made it worse was some other kids at another institution I attended actually found it funny. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif) These kids had absolutely no idea what these poor kids went through and still found it funny. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

So sorry to hear your news. Cancer is a horrible disease in any of its forms, and losing a relative or friend to it can be extremely emotional and painful, not just at the end, but as you watch their health deteriorate . Thinking of you and of her family at this time.

Thanks everyone..Its really helpful to know that you are thinking of Liz's family and friends. I know I will miss her a lot, and there will be a big gap in our gatherings of chamber music friends without her. She always had a sunny disposition and would come with home made cakes or biscuits, and sometimes with bunches of grapes from her vine, or other fresh fruits from her garden. So generous and kind... No wonder she had a lot of friends.

Sorry to hear your sad news, Jane. A friend of mine died of cancer last year - she was only a few years older than me. It does make you think and reassess your own life, doesn't it? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

There is a 6 year-old from our local town who has got a brain tumour (had once, had it removed and was doing well) and then found a new one 2-3 weeks ago. She is now on palliative care. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)
