I don't think that you can find out which instrument is the hardest or easiest to play. All instruments are hard and easy in thier own ways.

I think piano is easy for beginners compared with other instruments but i'm not saying it's the easiest. All instruments are hard to play, I suppose. Perhaps violin or any other instruments from the string family are the hardest.

hmm, I think it really depends on your "natural" instrument, I mean, I believe that everyone has an instrument they take to naturally, i.e. for me it's singing and flute, but I find piano extremely hard, it is the sight reading possibly, but also the coordination of the two hands (And i'm a dancer also, so my coordination isn't too bad (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)) I play the keyboard okay, but I just can't get the piano! I'm desperate to get with it though, because I'd love to teach singing (Which I have done, but it's better if you can play piano) Flute, I've only just started learning and I'm learning grade 3 pieces already, and I find it pretty easy, violin I found very hard to begin with, almost as hard as the piano! And I still can't play it well, Clarinet - i've enver had a lesson, and i've only just got a clarinet, it took me AGES just to get a decent sound out, but now i've got the hang of that and i've learned some of the fingerings i'm finding it easier, cello is ok, i have't really had enough lessons, but I think having violin experience has definately helped, and Singing, i've always been able to "sing in tune" and it's my first love!

woah, sorry..that turned into a huge explanation!!

I don't think there's a easiest or hardest instrument. To get very good in every instrument is very hard. Everyone is different so everyone find different instrument hard. For me beginning piano is easy but for me best friend she find it extremly hard. once you're about grade 8 then the instrument gets really hard.

Well, its a very open question coz there isnt alot of people in the world who can say theyve played every instrument and therefore who can make an honest comparison. But i agree with people who are saying harp. doesnt it have 7 pedals? well thats complicated enough for me.
Every Instrument is hard in its own right, and itll depend on the person too, i.e. someone whos tonedeaf wont be able to sing but might be really good at say the piano or something.
At the moment im finding flutter tonging on the flute really hard lol, just isnt happenin (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I've just learnt playing the harmonica, electrnic keyboard and piano. I'd say harmonica is the easiest.

I'm still learning piano and find it not too difficult at Grade 4. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

To my opinion, violin is the hardest. we have to find the notes with our fingers, that can easy go wrong for some beginers, if they put there finger a little further, the notes change into sharp or flat or double flat. I heard some teachers and elder people say that violin in the hardest.

Then the piano comes next because we have to play it with our hands and legs too(for the pedals). Sometimes even ears( for the metronome). But it is very useful because you learn for treble clef and also bass clef, but violin only treble clef! That's why you found other instruments easier to learn when you know piano.

For the easiest instrument, I haven't found it yet because there are no shortcuts for instruments to play out a nice tune, right?

Ok, those are only my opinion, don't mind it too much if you don't agree with it.

About the guiness book thing: The French horn is one of, if not the most difficult to hit the note while having good tone quality (I play the French horn, albeit very badly). Even professionals have said that hitting the note on the dot is one of the hardest thigns to do (but, of course you usually hear them hit the correct note in performances XD). However, French horns are very nice and have the greatest range among the brass.

loads of people say oboe is the hardest instrument but I have never found that............. thats probably because it was my first instrument and I had nothing to compare it to. lol.

I would say that the piano is the hardest because of the whole using 2 hands at once thing. Thats probably just because I'm badly co-ordinated though. lol. I think the cello is hard to, mainly because I keep dropping it and they are hard to re-tune.

i'm playing the piano right now, i think it's a bit hard but if you practice, it's not that hard.

i've heard a lot of people say that violin (or any type of string instruments) is very difficult to play. is anyone playing the violin? is it really that hard? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

It seems to me that everyone's different, and so there is no one instrument that is harder than the other.....I took to the oboe and violin quite naturally but know I would really struggle with the piano, which lots of people see as supposedly "easier"....well not for me it isn't!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Instruments I think I'd find it straightforward to pick up: cello, sax, flute

Instruments I think I'd struggle with: clarinet, all brass especially trombone, piano, organ

Instrument I don't have a hope in ###### with: my own voice! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I personally find the piano the easiest instrument. The notes are there and you can't play them out of tune in the same way with a string instrument.

I find string instruments hard with the tuning. Just a LITTLE bit off the right place and it sounds like a strangled cat *shudder*
