if i were to choose a new instrument to play, i would choose either saxophone, violin, or harp. baritione sax probably, cos i love the deep notes. violin because it sounds fantastic when played well(but awful when not!), and harp because it sounds amazing, has a distinctive sound, and they arent very many harp players around.

What instrument would you take up if you could???

You've forgotten the voice...(IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

As for me, probably a woodwind instrument of some kind, possibly clarinet...

I voted 'other' - and it's singing that I have in mind! I'll never be a singer, as such, but if I had an extremely sympathetic teacher that I already knew well I'd like at least to be able to sing in a choir. I sang soprano in the school choir, many moons ago, but I'd have to sing alto now and I just can't get the notes right. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) Never mind produce a pleasant sound. In the other thread, a while ago, I voted double bass, and then changed my mind to viola (which I'm hopefully starting next week (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)). This time I voted for harp, as I would love to be able to play the clarsach - it's a truly beautiful instrument (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif).

It would probably be between trumpet and French horn for me (however my cousin plays trumpet and it would become a competition).

I've never been good with strings instruments, and I wouldn't want to play a double reeded instrument. The clarinet would probably just take me away from my flute playing even though I'd love top play it.

I'd also love to play orchestral percussion so that I could show up all the rubbish ones at the summer music courses (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/niceThread.gif) BTW

I voted orchestral percussion.
Would also like to play French horn, alto flute, hammered dulcimer and a few other things, but they weren't on the list.
I already dabble with keyboards and woodwind, plus a little bit with strings and brass. I'm just really interested in how different instruments work and in the different sounds I can get out of them. The only ones that I don't want to try to play are double-reeds - not sure exactly why but I think it's something to do with the feel of the reed.

I took up french horn 2 years ago, after 4 years of trumpet and 3 years of tenor horn, doubling up with my 8 years of clarinet and piano (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

I'd love to play a cello, but i think i've picked up enough extra instruments for now.

If you ever do take up another instrument, DO NOT pick french horn, christ its a marathon to play 3 blind mice let alone a concerto (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'd love to play the harp. However, obviously you need a lot of space AND be able to lug it from venue to venue..

So when I'm rich and live in a huge house (I wish!), I'll get myself one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I'd love to be able to play orchestral percussion properly! I tried once in band but it was nothing short of disastorous (spelling)?! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif)

Any other instrument would do though! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I would like to know what it's like to play all of the instruments you listed (except for the ones I can play, piano, harp and cornet), so I voted for "other".
