First thing to work out - if you know very little of jazz, why do you want to play it?

(I'm not trying to be difficult here, it's helpful to know why someone wants to do something before suggesting a place to start)

The next great adventure? I think most of us know absolutely nothing about any sort of music when we first start playing an instrument, but you soon start learning!

Really? Maybe I'm different then.

I've always had an idea of why I wanted to play each instrument I've chosen and moving into jazz was a conscious, but scary, decision because the style of playing matched "the sound in my head" that I knew I wanted to create.
