There are some strange noises that some oboists make when they are playing.

I have never been able to make the frying pan noise, so I don't know what causes it, but it is something to do with the reed. It sounds like something frying, especially something wet that is causing the oil to spit.

Has anyone experienced this?

Do you know what causes it?

Does the sound come out of the oboe, or from somewhere else ?

Water in the octave keys probably. Usually sorted out with a swab through and some cigarette paper. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

It comes from the reed. It isn't the octave keys.

In that case, no, I've never experienced or heard anything like that.

I've heard my son make that noise with his sax reed. He usually takes it out and cleans it - probably it's a spit thing.

My cat is too but only when she has eaten a particular brand of dried cat food.

It's his dad who makes the other type of noises. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

flobiano is right. It's from the octave boxes (probably 1) not the reed.

It isn't the octave boxes. Different sound, just like fat spitting in a frying pan. Quite loud and I find very annoying.
