Ive had my violin lesson tonight and we talked about me taking my Grade 8 in the near future. This is like a dream as Ive not played for over 20 years, took it up again about 3 months ago and seem to be getting back to standard pretty quick. I had done Grade 7 as a teenager and wondered if the ABRSM kept records of past exam results as Ive no idea where my certificates are. Problem is we are talking over 20 years ago. I will contact them but just wondered if anyone knew?

Yes, I think they can trace results of exams taken that long ago. You need to give them details of where/when roughly - they charge for this search.

Thanks for that, I have just found an email address to contact them so have done and will wait and see. Fingers crossed (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yes, the AB managed to track mine down from 1980. Even though I couldn't remember exactly when I took the exam (there were six possible terms it could have been), or the exact name of my teacher. And I'd changed names in the mean time.....

Thanks thats great news as I cant remember exactly when it was. Think I still have the music for the Grade 5 so it will have the year on that I suppose.
Did you have to pay a fee?

Yes. I'm afraid I can't remember how much, though. Best thing is to ring them up and ask.

If the fee isn't much lower than the fee for Grade 5 theory, it may be a good idea to sit the theory exam again.

The same thing happened to me - I took my Grade 5 theory nearly 21 years ago (or somewhere round the dark ages).

Strangely, my parents had kept ALL my music certificates etc. so we found it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) (it was a bit faded (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) )

I hope it still counts.

It was really interesting reading the 'comments' sheet from 34 years ago when I took Grade 1 piano (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blush.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) Most of the comments were about tension and nerves (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

My mum kept all my certificates too but she sadly died and I cant find them.
As for taking it again, not if I can avoid it, theory was my bad point, I scraped through on Theory but always did ok on the actual playing.
Got an email today from ABRSM and they said its £20 to trace it or if I can find grade 6 or 7 violin certs that is ok. Also an O level pass in music is ok too. Ive got my o level certs so I think I will be ok.
Thanks for all your help everyone and thank you ABRSM for replying so quickly.

This would be a good reason to re-sit the theory exam. Having solid knowledge in theory would help you play better! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
