Got back a while ago from visiting a friend who is a novice violinist (or should that be player (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) who only took it up at the end of last year when someone gave her what looks like a generic Chinese violin shaped object. She has sporadic lessons. She is an experienced musician on a number of instruments (guitar, mandolin etc) and has a number fine hand-made instruments.

I spent some time working on some basic music theory with her (like a lot of guitarists, tends not to do "dots"). It's interesting when something that has obviously caused them trouble suddenly clicks into place.

She then insisted that I play my sax - I don't have any repertoire yet, but I took along the AB Eb Real book and sight-read my way through a few items... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

Have your neighbours officially said to you that you can't practice your clarinet when they're there?

They have said that they don't like it, especially on bank holidays. I know they can hear me because I can hear them... it's like being in the same house (we're semi-detatched). So I'm trying not to annoy them.

I think one of the main crriticisms is that it's the wrong sort of music... they dont like classical, they're into heavy metal..... you can see why I don't want to start a "my music's louder than yours" war.

I'm very lucky with my neighbours really, there are plenty worse things they could do and not liking to hear clarinet music on a bank holiday is a small thing really but I often wish I could just play whenever I want.

Maybe they'll go out later and you can let rip then.
