Looking a bit too far ahead I think, but oh well!
Does anyone here make a LIVING out of music here? I would just be fascinated and astonished if anyone did. Anyone? Thanks in advance |

Look here:
http://www.royalmarinesbands.co.uk/pages/index1.htm Yes! it would make a living - I know someone in there at the moment on a wage of £33,000 a yr. Any you can think of really (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) . Woodwind, Brass, Percussion,.... Strings (in the orchestra). A truely amazing career!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I am required to go in on flute, picc. and Bb sax (tenor). Because I want to do flute, I will have to do these others as well (above). QUOTE Universally recognised as one of the finest musical bodies in the world, the Royal Marines Band Service provides musical support for the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines on every type of occasion. For although they are probably best know for supporting major ceremonial events with immaculately turned out ranks of white helmets and blue uniforms, playing and marching in perfect time behind the magnificent drummers and the Drum Major - each of the bands which make up the service has to perform as an orchestra and a dance band as well as a military band. In fact their repertoire covers every category of music including jazz, pop, classical, light concert music and the big band sound. In terms of career experience you could find yourself playing in anything from a full orchestra to jazz, folk and pop groups - variety and excellence are the name of the game. Today's band service is a unique blend of versatility, talent and tradition, on top of which it has an important medical and military role to provide an operational capability to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. A career as a Royal Marines musician is both physically and professionally demanding but, whether it's playing Mozart or firing an SA80 rifle, the training is unbeatable and the rewards immense |

Does anyone here make a LIVING out of music here? I would just be fascinated and astonished if anyone did. Just about, although I could probably stack shelves in Tesco for the same sort of money. However, if you'll pardon the really bad pun, apart from playing the violin I do have other strings to my bow...... |

In the context it becomes a pun because a violin uses a bow to play etc. |

I make a living teaching piano. If you mean making a living playing, yes I know a lot of people who either play in an orchestra or freelance & some who do a mixture of playing/singing & teaching.

Yes, I teach curriculum music and piano in a primary school. My job involves an awful lot of playing, along with pretty much all other aspects of music you can think of.

Is anyone on the forum a music librarian? I'm interested in this field. I'm thinking of studying music and information studies in an Arts degree. I know in the UK you don't call it "Arts", but something else. I don't know the word, but in French its les lettres.
