Got a phone call first thing this morning from my mum, just one word "bleed", I knew what she meant and told her that I would be on my way. Dragged myself out of bed and put on clothes and went straight out of the house, no food, drink or anything. Nose bleed hadn't stopped after 2 x 15 minutes pinching so did what we were told and called and ambulance. Told them mums fears about going to our nearest A & E and if there was anyway that we didnt need to go. They said 3 time nose bleed they would have to take in, but they could take us to another hospital which was further away. I said will they at least bring Mum back because of the oxygen and they said "yes". So Mum opted to go to the alternate hospital which was definitely better as she wasn't kept in a corridor for hours waiting to be seen.
The nose bleed appeared to have stopped before we left Mum's house but we still had to go to the hospital. They did and ECG and blood tests, thankfully she isn't anaemic. The doctor then came and saw us and said that Mum could go home, the nose wasn't bleeding so therefore he couldn't do anything. We then had to wait 5 hours for transport home, asked if they could let us have the oxygen and we would take her home ourselves, we are used to the oxygen as we have had to live with it now for 2 years and take it with us whenever we take Mum anywhere, the hospital said "no" which i could see their reasonings. Was starving as had nothing to eat all day and poor Mum although they got her a bag with a sandwich in couldn't eat either as I had failed to think about grabbing her teeth. I suppose I was so concernced about grabbing her medication, clean nightie, dressing gown, slippers etc, all in the space of a few mins. I also grabbed the crossword book so that we could do crosswords to make the time go quickly whilst waiting. My sister arrived at the hospital about 3pm, in fact just before the doctor came to see Mum and say that she could go home. When the transport finally came to take Mum home, Mum wanted me to travel with my sister as she didn't want her to be on her own. I was concerned about her being in the ambulance on her own as she always likes me to go in with her, but went with my sister. Anyway, we followed the ambulance and near home we were able to overtake so that we could get in the house before them and get everything ready, lights on, and the oxygen ready for when Mum came in. We are still none the wiser, and are hoping to get hold of the doctor or respitory nurse tomorrow to see if we can get this referral to ENT. My sister is with Mum now as she is there on Sunday to Tuesday morning which means I have 2 nights that I don't have to worry about getting a call. Came home, grabbed a baked potato and humous and poured myself a glass of wine, in fact I had 2 as I know that I wont have to be running out tonight. Just hope that we get Mum sorted soon. Thankfully it happened this morning and not yesterday when I was out in London for the Grand Piano Gathering. Off to bed in a min as I am exhausted and got work tomorrow. ET |

Hope things calm down, ET, at least it'll be looked into now rather than you all worrying while it's all going crazy at home...
The way I would look at it is that at least in hospital, she's being watched around the clock, and it gives you a little respite. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/fingersCrossed.gif) |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/fingersCrossed.gif) No, Solari They didn't keep mum in, in fact they just did all the checks to make sure that she was ok, and what was good they tested the blood so at least we know that she isn't anaemic. As for the rest, we still have to try and get hold of a doctor to get an ENT referral, I just hope that this can be quick. However, unless they can see anything in the nose then they still can't do anything. But at least I know that I am not going to be called out tonight as my sister is with her until tomorrow afternoon, from there it becomes my responsibility again. |

Grrr... Sorry to hear that, it's frustrating when you have to deal with the whole hospital "revolving door" thing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/fingersCrossed.gif) things improve for you! Although I know that's not much comfort (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |
